Quality
Advice is settled by senior counsel and tested before it is given. We would rather tell a client that their position is weak than let them discover it in court.
Established 1959
Hafiz Abdul Baqi & Co was established in 1959 by Hafiz Abdul Baqi, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The firm was built around a simple proposition: that a client is best served by counsel who knows the whole of their affairs, and who will carry the matter personally from first instruction to final order. That proposition has not changed. Sixty-five years later, the firm still takes instructions the same way.
The firm is today led by a Barrister of Lincoln's Inn, bringing training at the English Bar to a practice rooted in six decades of appearance before the Pakistani courts. That combination matters most to clients whose affairs cross jurisdictions — overseas Pakistanis, foreign investors, and families with interests in more than one country.
Practising continuously from Karachi since its founding, the firm has advised individuals, families, private companies, financial institutions and public bodies through successive constitutional and commercial eras in Pakistan. It has appeared before the District Courts, the High Court of Sindh, the special tribunals, and the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Founded 1959Our Commitment
We are committed to providing our clients with quality, comprehensive, timely and cost-effective legal services. Here is what each of those means in practice.
Advice is settled by senior counsel and tested before it is given. We would rather tell a client that their position is weak than let them discover it in court.
A single set of facts can carry civil, criminal, tax and regulatory consequences at once. We map the whole exposure before recommending a course on any one front.
Limitation periods, filing dates and court diaries govern outcomes. The firm treats them as immovable, and keeps clients informed of progress without their having to chase.
Fees are discussed candidly at the outset. Matters are staffed to their actual weight — no more — and clients are told when a dispute is not worth pursuing.
A working libraryWho We Act For
The firm acts for private individuals and families, owner-managed businesses, listed and unlisted companies, banks and non-banking financial institutions, importers and exporters, developers and landowners, and overseas Pakistanis with interests to protect at home.
Many of our client relationships span generations — a company we incorporated is now advised through its second ownership, an estate we administered has become a family we still act for. That continuity is the firm’s most valuable asset, and the reason we are careful about the work we take on.
We are equally accustomed to acting on discrete instructions: a single opinion, one appeal, a due diligence exercise against a deadline. New clients are welcome, and an initial consultation carries no obligation.
